Varoujan Pierre Papazian né au Caire en 1943, est d'origine arménienne. Il débute son apprentissage dans l'atelier de son père.

Vers l'âge de 16 ans, il fréquente une école d'ébénisterie en France, en Haute-Savoie durant quatre ans avec stages chez des ébénistes de La région, désignés par l¹école et faisant partie de la formation.

Après avoir terminer ses études, il émigre au Canada. Au début il travailla à Montréal, mais bientôt il s'établit à son compte près d'Ayers Cliff.

En 1980 après 3 passé dans le sud de l'Inde où il a travaillé avec des ébénistes locaux, il retourne au Québec. Il s'installe près de Fitch Bay dans les Cantons de l'Est où il œuvre présentement.

Les meubles que l'artisan fabrique sont fait de bois massif, exécutés d'après les techniques traditionnelles et ancestrales qui prennent en considération le fait que le bois soit un matériau vivant qui réagit aux différences de température et d'humidité.

Les essences employées sont celles qui se trouvent dans la région : cerisier, chêne, érable, frêne, tilleul et principalement le pin blanc.

Chaque pièce est unique, faite selon les spécifications du client. Seul des outils manuels servent pour la sculpture, gravure, sablage et finition, comme dans l'ancien temps. Les meubles ainsi produits sont d'une qualité qui ne craint pas le passage du temps.

Varoujan Pierre Papazian, born in Cairo in 1943, is of Armenian descent. He started his apprenticeship at an early age in his father's workshop.

At the age of 16 he attended a cabinet-making school in Haute Savoie, France. Along with schooling he followed training in different shops designated by the school as part of his education.

After having completed 4 years of schooling, he immigrated to Canada. On his arrival he started working in Montreal, then established himself near Ayers Cliff.

In 1980, after a 3 years stay in southern India where he worked with local cabinetmakers, he came back to Quebec and started the shop he is presently working in. It is located near Fitch Bay in the Eastern Townships.

The furniture he builds is made of solid wood, using traditional techniques that take into account the fact that wood is a living material and reacts to differences of temperature and humidity. The variety of woods used are found in the region: cherry, oak, maple, ash, linden and mostly white pine.

Every piece is unique, made to the customer's specifications. Only hand tools are used for the sculpting, carving, sanding and finishing, just as in the old days. And as in those days, every piece of furniture will pass the test of time.
