Inspiration is the basis of all artistic creation, it is embedded within each of us. Everything is insperational for Richard, but most of all, music and litterature are key elements where atmosphere and the subject of the paintings co-exist together. The work is already there, he just has to let go. Above all, painting requires a great deal of knowledge and workmanship. The artist, the authentic artist, is the one that is constantly looking for ways to translate emotions in his work.

For Richard, painting is also a way to assess his way of life, his ideals, his philosophy, where the do's and don't are denounced at the risk of being labelled "politically incorrect".
